Well, that was until this happened:

As excited as we were on Friday to hear that our parents homes both finally got measurable snow after a few years of nothing but flurries, we were super worried it was actually going to snow in raleigh and cause us to be delayed. well, it snowed... for 5 minutes before turning into rain. so, we packed our bags, cleaned out the fridge and went to bed ready to hop on a plane saturday morning.
Wanting to get at least one more good workout in before leaving, I got out of bed a bit before 8a and turned the tv on for a few to wake up. And what did I see? Delta: All flights to NYC canceled. I must admit, my first reaction was laughter... which got Josh's attention. So, he wakes up and stumbles into the den and then it hits us - oh crap, we're flying through NYC? We frantically search websites and find the appropriate number (or 4) and start dialing repeatedly until finally Josh gets through. And then we're on hold. Forever. So while Josh's phone is on hold with Delta, we use my phone to call our friends and inform them of the bad news. We see online there are flights through Atlanta that seem to still be open, but we're still on hold.
An hour goes by... and we're still on hold. Frustrated, Josh decides to see if there are any flights still open that we might could take. So, he signs in and sees that we've already been rescheduled....... for Tuesday. What? That's 4 more days! As mentioned above, we cleaned out our fridge and our bags are packed and ready to go. This means we have no food at our place and all the clothes we would want to wear are in suitcases. Ugh. There's an option to see alternate flights, so we try that. There's a flight leaving Sunday through Atlanta! Awesome!!! We click the link and it shows available seats on all three flights it would take for us to get to our destination! Sweet. Then we click 'select flight.' No go. For some reason it won't let us switch! Oh, the frustration.
Still on hold. Forever.
At this point, we start dialing other numbers with my phone and finally get through.... and then get put on hold. For 30 minutes, our phones are in sync with the music of being on hold. Then, finally, after THREE HOURS of being on hold, we get through! And there are no flights. To anywhere. Joy. The lady tells us to call back later that evening and maybe people will have canceled reservations and there will be an opening for us. So we do. Still nothing. We tried again on Sunday. Still nothing. So, here we are in Raleigh. Our bags are still packed and ready to go on Tuesday and we've had the pleasure of eating out for pretty much every meal.
Lord willing, tomorrow we'll fly out. Finally. And we cannot wait!

Here we have been thinking you were already overseas! We will definitely pray you will get out soon! Karl and Shanna
ReplyDeleteAww, that stinks. At least you're stuck at your own home and not in NYC, having to sleep on the airport floor or in a $200-a-night hotel room, right?
