So, two things to report on tonight:
1. We found our new hiking place of choice. In Raleigh, we could walk to Durant Nature Park in like a mile and then play in the woods on the trails and be back at our house in less than an hour. We loved it. But, we now live in a HUGE city that almost has more people than our old state. For the first four months, we thought to get to anything green and big enough to walk more than 3 minutes in we had to leave the city. Not so, my friends, not so! Last Monday, we went on a field trip with school and ended up driving right by our neighborhood. As we turned the corner, we noticed a running track type sidewalk. So, Sunday we went to check it out. It took us about 10 minutes to walk there, and then 20 feet after the track thing begins, there's a big gate into a forest looking area. We decided whatever it was, it had to beat walking beside all the cars and their exhaust, so we went in. Much to our surprise, we discovered a pretty big park (ok, not huge, but it's at least 1 or 2 square km) and it has trails and fitness thingys like the parrallel bars and pull up bars like lots of parks do and we even saw girls running in shorts, which is pretty exciting for me... so I don't die of heat exhaustion this summer having to run in pants and long sleeves. Woot. Thank you, God, for knowing us well enough to know we need a near-by break from city life.
2. Today I bought my first magazine in the new language. Surprisingly, I can read like, half of it! Another praise the Lord moment - it's always nice to realize I do actually know something. And, to make it better, it even came with a bonus magazine (about kids and babies, which isn't so relevant yet, but fun still) and a pack of yogalates cards with exercises. What magazine in America would ever give you work out cards for free unless you subscribed.
And..... just because I'm on a roll.... a friend told us you can order from Sierra Trading Post here and they deliver UPS - so I ordered 2 awesome pairs of shoes tonight and they should be arriving in 2(ish) weeks. And it was totally cheaper than buying the not-so-comfortable shoes here even with the shipping included!
Good day. God is so gracious!
